Life Is A Journey

Life is full of adventures, sometimes we encounter dangers, and though unpredictable, we can manage and be adaptable. The inspiration behind this painting is based on my reflection of my past – being ignorant and not knowing the true meaning of freedom, fear, and hurt. As such, it caused me to pay a high price for an expensive lesson in my first, and last time of my incarceration. This batik painting of the sea, waves, turtles, hills and blue sky, represent us, the environment, struggles, dangers and circumstance etc., that we will constantly face.

In the current crisis we are facing which is COVID-19, the community as a whole must come together to overcome it. There is no place for ignorance if we want to be relieved from isolation. Life is a journey, we may never know our destiny. Nothing is forever, so let us move forward together. We all will make it through to defeat COVID-19. You are not alone. Let us all think positively, work positively, and we’ll achieve positively.

In partnership with Yellow Ribbon Project, selected artworks created by inmates from Visual Arts Hub (VAH) are showcased to represent the overcoming of adversity, instilling hope and to encourage the community not to give up during uncertain times.

The featured artworks can be adopted by members of the public. All proceeds will go to the Yellow Ribbon Fund in support of the rehabilitation of ex-offenders. If you are interested, kindly contact Ms Carol Ho at Carol_HO@yellowribbon.gov.sg for more information.

The Yellow Ribbon Project (YRP) is a national public engagement campaign aimed at changing society’s mindset in giving ex-offenders a second chance in life. The community initiative aims to create awareness of the need to give second chances to ex-offenders, generate acceptance of ex-offenders and their families in the community, and inspire community action to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of ex-offenders into society.
